The toothbrush was an... interesting choice

Just like any engine it has it’s strengths and weaknesses and good maintenance is key. I’m lucky because subaru replaced my engine under warranty at 36,000 miles!

Subaru needs to start using SOHC and pushrod engines again, which are narrower than DOHC.

They should also widen their cars to better accommodate their boxer engines. They can do this since they’re more heavily reliant on the US market than other Japanese cars are.

I heard Fel-Pro makes a good head gasket for the EJ that finally solves the problem.

You can find kits online that let you swap in an LS. That might be a better use of your money and time than servicing a shitty high-maintenance EJ

The Fel-Pro head gasket set and NGK ruthenium spark plugs and you’ll never have to worry about the EJ again!

No hate for Subies as they are huge around here, but personally I think they all sound like they are ready to blow up

old ones come in so handy, and when they get too gunked up, chuck them.

It's a pointing device! It's a cleaning instrument! It's a blunt weapon! So many uses!

I don’t hate them either, and don’t mind their sound much either since they sound like old Beetles. The latter can be fixed with a set of equal-runner-length headers.

What about the H6 engines?

I’d be very inclined to buying a Subaru if they put the engine in the back like on a VW Type 4. The rear-engine layout accommodates the boxer engine better.

They should’ve done that with the BRZ

Subaru engine swaps are popular in rear-engine VWs and even Porsches

When I was a younger man I would have been into wrx/sti's. Today a quiet awd 300hp Lexus GS is a better fit for me

The Beck replicas of the Speedster and 550 Spyder use a Subaru b ox er engine. But, if I were doing it I would use an air-cooled Type 4  engine by Jake Raby.

That would be an alternate meaning behind the classic “I hope you brought your toothbrush” line from a judge.  I like it.
